NEW ORLEANS, La. (blugolds.com) - Darin Lau (Jr.-Eau Claire, WI/Immanuel), of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team, was named National Athlete of the Week. The honor was announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.

USTFCCCA Release

Lau was victorious for the first time in his collegiate career over the weekend, taking first place at the St. Olaf Invitational. Lau's winning time of 25:26 was 16 seconds ahead of the runner-up, also making him the first Blugold to ever win the St. Olaf Invitational.

Lau's performance led the Blugold men to winning the team title as well in the race that featured DIII-ranked St. Olaf and a few DII programs. Taking the team title in the team's opener is picking up right where they left off as last season's national champions.
