Men's Cross Country Races to Third Place at Luther Invite

DECORAH, Iowa (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team finished third out of 11 teams at the Luther All-American Invite today in Decorah, Iowa.

The Blugolds finished the four-mile course with an average time of 21:11, landing the team in third place. Eau Claire totaled 86 points on the day, while first place finisher UW-La Crosse ended the event with 36 points and a 20:58 average time.

Michael Unruh (Fr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) led the way for the Blugolds, running the event in just 21:02 to earn ninth place. Kevin Weber (Sr.-Mounds View, Minn./Irondale) finished 13th with a time of 21:06 and Conor Rafferty (So.-Menomonee Falls, Wis.) crossed the line just a second later to earn 16th place. To round out Eau Claire's top five, Michael Borden (Jr.-Holmen, Wis.) and Jake Zander (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) recorded times of 21:15 and 21:24 to finish 23rd and 29th, respectively.

Next weekend the Blugold men are slated to race in two events. The team will first compete in the St. Mary's Invitational Friday afternoon in Winona, Minn. and then the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invite Saturday morning. Friday's event is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m.
