Breitbach Selected to NCAA Cross Country Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's cross country runner Tom Breitbach (Sr.-Muskego, Wis.) has been selected to compete in the 2010 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship as the NCAA announced the complete field today.

This is the third year in a row the Blugold men will be represented at nationals. A season ago, the entire team competed and took 16th place while an individual participated in 2008.

Breitbach was selected after leading the Blugolds at regionals yesterday with a 15th place finish while his team finished in sixth place. He will join the Blugold women at nationals, who automatically qualified for nationals this year after winning regionals yesterday. The Blugolds claimed the national title a season ago.

Breitbach was part of the team that competed at nationals last year and he took 119th place overall and was the third Blugold finisher. This season he has competed in six meets and led the Blugolds in five of them.

From the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Oshkosh and Stevens Point will have both men's and women's teams at nationals after earning at-large bids while Platteville earned an automatic bid on the men's side and Eau Claire claimed the women's automatic selection. Six WIAC individuals also earned at-large selections.

Wartburg College will host the championships, November 20, at Max Championship Cross Country Course in Waverly, Iowa.  The men's race will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time followed by the women's race at noon Eastern.
