Men's Cross Country Dominates for JV Cup Victory

DECORAH, Iowa (Blugolds.com) - After Blugold runners finished one-two-three, the No. 32-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team decisively beat two other teams for a win at the JV Cup this afternoon.

The Blugolds earned just 24 points and had an average completion time of 26:42.2 minutes to take the top spot. Host Luther College (Iowa) tallied 47 points for second while Augustana College (Ill.) closed out the competition with 56 points.

The top five Blugold runners all finished solidly within the top 12. Matt Scott (Fr.-Kiel, Wis.) paced the field with a time of 26:22.1 for the individual win. Kevin Weber (Sr.-Mounds View, Minn./Irondale) completed the 8K course in 26:29.5 for second while Michael Borglin's (Jr.-Whitewater, Wis.) time of 26:36.9 was good enough for third. Matt Wenaas (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) ran a 26:54.6 for sixth and Philip Schommer (So.-Kimberly, Wis.) rounded out the top group of Blugolds with a 12th-place time of 27:07.9.

Next up for the runners is the NCAA Regional competition, which will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Rock Island, Ill. The top two finishing teams at the event will automatically qualify for NCAA Nationals. Sixteen other teams from around the nation will be awarded at-large bids to the final event.
