Men's Basketball Holds Off Titans in a Close Match

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team topped the UW-Oshkosh Titans 59-56 Wednesday night in Kolf Sports Center, giving the Blugolds their first conference win of the season.

Neither team dominated the game, with the Blugolds holding the largest lead of the game at six points (34-28) early in the second half.

Late in the second half, the Blugolds went on a 13-2 scoring run to take a 54-48 lead with 2:31 left.  Prior to that run, the Titans used a 5-0 run to reach their largest lead of the night (46-41). A few clutch free throws late in the game secured the victory for the Blugolds.

Forward Nick Craggs (Sr.-Kimberly, Wis.) led the Blugolds with 14 points and eight rebounds.  The Blugolds had three other players in double figures, with Dustin Kalien (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) scoring 11 points, and Jordan Petersen (Sr.-Strum, Wis./Elva-Strum) and Lewis Mau (So.-Colfax, Wis.) both adding ten points.

The Blugolds shot the ball well all night, shooting 21-for-43 (48.8 percent). The Titans went 18-for-42 (42.9 percent). 

The win brought Eau Claire's record to 7-9 overall and 1-6 in the WIAC. The Titans are now 6-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

The next game for the Blugolds will be this Saturday against UW-River Falls at 3 p.m. in Zorn Arena.
