Men's Basketball Starts Season With a Convincing Win

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW- Eau Claire men's basketball team sealed a 76-40 victory over Emmaus Bible College (Iowa) in its first game of the season.  The two teams faced each other in the Gabe Miller Tip-Off Classic in Platteville, Wisconsin.

The Blugolds got off to a great start, outscoring Emmaus 41-17 in the first half.  The Blugolds posted and impressive 50.9 field goal percentage for the whole game.  They also capitalized on their free throw opportunities, shooting 9-10 from the line.

The Blugolds' defense played tough, holding Emmaus to just 26.3 percent from the field in the first half and 27.3 percent for the game.  The team also had 10 steals in the game, including four from Jordan Petersen (Sr.-Strum, Wis./Elva Strum).

Guard Peterson tied for a game high 13 points for the Blugolds.  Petersen was a perfect 5-5 shooting, including 3-3 from beyond the three-point line.  Nick Craggs (Sr.-Kimberly, Wis.) scored 13 for the Blugolds as well.

The Blugolds found a lot of success in the rebounding department, out-rebounding Emmaus 37-21.  The key for the Blugolds was their 26 defensive rebounds, which certainly helped prevent second chance scoring.  Forward Ryan Tachick (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) led the Blugolds and all players with six rebounds.

The Blugolds will look to continue their strong play in their second game of the Gabe Miller Tip-Off Classic when they face off against Goshen College (Ind.) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
