Schwamberger Named Midwest Region Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Blugolds.com) - For the second year in a row, UW-Eau Claire women's cross country head coach Dan Schwamberger has been named the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Coach of the Year, U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association officials recently announced.

Schwamberger, in his fourth year with the Blugolds, has guided the women's team to four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and three NCAA Division III Midwest Regional crowns. In 2009 he led the team to its first NCAA title. Prior to Schwamberger joining the Blugolds, the team won its last conference title in 1985.

Last weekend, Schwamberger helped lead the Blugolds to their first place finish at the regional meet as they accumulated 85 points, eight better than the second place finisher. Five runners competing at the regional were named to the All-Region team as they all finished 35th or better.

The Blugolds will now compete at the national meet, which will be held this weekend in Waverly, Iowa.
