Two Blugolds Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire women's cross country runner Elly Prunty (Sr.-Antigo, Wis.) and women's tennis player Megan Born (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) have earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week honors, Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Prunty set a personal record, beating her old record by 31 seconds as she placed fourth out of 450 runners in a 6,000-meter time of 21:38 at the Tori Neubauer Invitational on Oct. 16.  She led the Blugolds to a fifth-place finish out of 27 teams.

Born won two matches during the week at No. 1 singles, defeating UW-River Falls' Jenny Paxton (6-3, 6-2) on Oct. 12, and UW-La Crosse's Kelly Stadum (6-2, 6-2) on Oct. 16.  She has won four matches in a row, improving her overall record to 9-4. She finished the regular season 5-1 at No. 1 singles in the WIAC.
