Women's Cross Country Wins Lake Wissota Invite

LAKE WISSOTA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team took first place out of six teams at the Lake Wissota Invitational today.

The Blugolds finished with 31 points to lead the pack, while Viterbo University was second with 59. NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Duluth came in third with 75.

Viterbo won the top two spots individually, but the Blugolds captured five out of the top nine spots.

Charissa Drake (Jr.-Orfordville, Wis./Parkview) was the top Blugolds finisher, taking fourth with a time of 18:51 on the 5,000-meter course.

Dana Griepentrog (Fr.-Mequon, Wis./Homestead) was fifth with a time of 18:58, while Shelby Berning (So.-Chetek, Wis.) was sixth with a time of 19:13 and Michelle Brunshidle (So.-Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) was seventh with a time of 19:22.

Rounding out the top five Blugold finishers was Victoria Janasz (Fr.-Elk River, Minn.) with a time of 19:32 to take ninth overall.

Next Saturday the Blugolds will host the 2010 WIAC Championship at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. The race will kick off at 1 p.m., following the men's competition.
