Women's Cross Country Second at JV Cup

DECORAH, Iowa (Blugolds.com) - Less than a week after winning its fourth-straight WIAC championship, the No. 14-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team finished second of three teams competing at the JV Cup hosted by Luther College (Iowa).

The Blugolds earned 35 points and had an average finishing time of 23:35.9 minutes en route to the runner-up finish. The Luther runners just edged out the win with 20 total points while Augustana College (Ill.) came in third with 85 points.

The top five Blugolds all finished inside the top-10 individual runners. Though Luther nabbed the top three positions, Maria Peloquin (Sr.-Prescott, Wis.) led the Blugolds with a time of 23:20.6 for fourth place. Teresa Coughlin (Jr.-Coon Rapids, Minn.) earned sixth with a time of 23:36.9 while Charissa Drake (Jr.-Orfordville, Wis./Parkview) and Nicole Blahnik (So.-Antigo, Wis.) crossed the line just two seconds apart for seventh and eighth with respective times of 23:38.1 and 23:40.1. Maria Kopecky (Sr.-Mercer, Wis.) closed out the top-10 with a time of 23:43.5.

On Saturday, Nov. 13 the Blugolds will compete in the NCAA Regional event in Rock Island, Ill. The top two finishing teams will earn automatic bids into the NCAA Championships, of which Eau Claire is the defending champion. The women's race will begin at 12 p.m.
