Women's Cross Country Runner Up at Roy Griak Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The No. 1-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team brought home a second place finish out of 32 teams at today's Roy Griak Invite hosted by the University of Minnesota.

In the 25th annual competition, the Eau Claire team claimed second with an average finishing time of 23:10.0, totaling 89 points. The finish marked the team's best placing at the race since it won the invitational in 2008. UW-Oshkosh just edged out the Blugolds for first this year, earning 65 points with an average run of 23:04.4.

Blugold runner Alyssa Sybilrud (Jr.-Savage, Minn./Burnsville) paced the field, completing the run at the Lee Bolstad Golf Course in just 22:04.4 to win the individual event.

Elly Prunty (Sr.-Antigo, Wis.) crossed the line ninth with a time of 22:51.6 while Margaret Ho (Sr.-Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) ran a 23:11.4 for 14th place. Ashlyn Mauer (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) and Teresa Coughlin (Jr.-Coon Rapids, Minn.) rounded out the top five for the Blugolds, running 23:35.4 and 24:06.9 for 25th and 46th places, respectively.

The Blugolds will stay in the area next weekend to host the Blugold Open on Friday. The race, held in Colfax, Wis., will begin at 4 p.m.
