Women's Cross Country Takes Second at SMU Invitational

WINONA, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team took second place out of seven teams at the St. Mary's University No Limit Invitational today.

The Blugolds, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III, finished with 51 points overall. Oregon State University, an NCAA Division I team, claimed the top spot with 25 points after six of its runners finished in the top 10. Viterbo University took third with 62. Eau Claire runners average 24:31.16 on the 6K-course while Oregon averaged 23:56.42.

Five Blugolds finished in the top 13 overall.

Madi Sawyer (Fr.-Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) led the team with a seventh place finish after coming in with a time of 24:02.90. MIchelle Brunshidle (So.-Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) was less than four seconds behind to take eighth place.

In 11th place was Dana Griepentrog (Fr.-Mequon, Wis./Homestead) with a time of 24:41.80 while Alana Jenkins (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Katie Thoe (Fr.-Menomonie, Wis.) were 12th and 13th, respectively.

The Blugolds will now compete at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitaionla tomorrow. Competition will get underway at 9 a.m.
