Gymnastics Hosts UW-Stout in Season Opener

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team held their season opener at the McPhee Physical Education Center gymnasium on Tuesday evening as they hosted UW-Stout. The Blugolds had seven athletes finish with top five placements in their respective events as they fell to the Blue Devils, 178.675-186.150.

Results

In their first event, UW-Eau Claire placed two athletes in the top five of the vault and accumulated a team score of 46.025. Harriet Toth (So. – Regina, SK/Martin) placed third with an individual score of 9.325. Molly Campbell (Fr. – Lincoln, Neb./Northeast) made her collegiate debut for the Blugolds and tied for fourth-place with a 9.300 score. After the first rotation, the Blugolds held a slight lead over Stout as they moved to the uneven bars.

Tia Ravara (Jr. – San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) led the team on the bars with a 9.150 and a third-place finish. Harriet Toth collected her second top five finish of the evening with a 9.025 and a fifth-place finish. Ava Obermoller (Fr. – Hawley, Minn.) finished sixth overall in her first collegiate meet with an 8.950.

On the beam, Toth and Liliana Shank (Sr. – Elkhart, Ind./Concord) posted the highest UWEC scores with a 8.900 and a 8.750 respectively.

The final event of the evening featured floor routines from six Blugolds. Molly Campbell placed third with a 9.350 and finished her first collegiate meet with two podium finishes for Eau Claire. Toth wrapped up her All-Around routine with a 9.175 on the floor and 36.425 points to earn her a second-place finish among All-Around competitors. Tia Ravara finished third among the all-around athletes with a 35.275.

The Blugolds will hit the road this weekend for the Chow's Winter Classic hosted in Des Moines, Iowa. UW-Eau Claire will face off against Simpson College at the Hy-Vee Hall located in the Iowa Events Center. The first rotation of the dual is scheduled for Saturday, January 14th at 1PM.
