Four Gymnasts Compete on Final Day of NCGA Championship

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Four UW-Eau Claire gymnasts competed in three events on the final day of the 2013 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship and three Blugolds finished as All-Americans.

Rachel Behmer (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) and Michaela McCamey (Jr.-Dayton, Ohio) finished as first team All-Americans as they both tied for third in their respective events.

Behmer tied for third on the uneven parallel bars as she finished with a career-high 9.625 points. She previously earned first team All-American honors on the uneven bars in 2011.

McCamey, last year's national champion on the balance beam, tied for third on the beam today with a score of 9.500. She is also a two-time first team All-American.

On the vault, Julia Stedman (Fr.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) finished as a second team All-American as she took seventh place with a score of 9.500. Cece Solem (Sr.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) also competed on the vault and finished 15th with 8.675 points.

Five Blugolds were also named to the NCGA All-Academic Team at the conclusion of the championship. Receiving honors this year were Behmer, RachelAnn Anderson (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.), Claire Johnson (Sr.-Eagan, Minn.), Danielle Schulzetenberg (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) and Molly Senske (Sr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.).

Head Coach Jean DeLisle was named Head Coach of the Year in the region.

Blugold Gymnasts Take Fifth at NCGA Championship

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) –The UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team took fifth place at the 2013 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship at UW-Whitewater tonight.

The Blugolds finished in fifth place with 184.550 points, matching their finish from a season ago. UW-Whitewater won the national title with 189.750 points, to claim its second consecutive championship.

Eau Claire set a school record on the vault with 47.775 points. The previous school best was 47.125, achieved in 2011.

Cece Solem (Sr.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) led the Blugolds on the vault as she finished in third place with a score of 9.675, a career-high. The mark is also a new school record, edging the old record of 9.650, which had been reached twice in 2004 and 2005 by Alison Eagles.

In the all-around competition, Danielle Schulzetenberg (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) finished in ninth place to capture All-American honors for the fourth time in her career, the first Blugold in history to earn All-American honors in the all-around all four years. She finished with 36.475 points, a season-high score. The top 10 finishers in the all-around earn All-American recognition.

Michaela McCamey (Jr.-Dayton, Ohio), last year's national champion on the balance beam, took second place in the event tonight to lead Eau Claire. She finished with 9.625 points, just off her career high of 9.650 points.

On the uneven bars, Rachel Behmer (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) had the top Blugold finish as she scored 9.450 points to claim 10th place.

Eau Claire had a tough time in the floor exercise tonight with no Blugolds finishing higher than tied for 28th. Julia Stedman (Fr.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul), Schulzetenberg and Solem all tied for 28th with scores of 9.400.

Saturday, the top 14 finishers (including ties) in each of the four events will compete on day two of the championships to determine the individual event winners and All-Americans.

McCamey will compete on the balance beam, Behmer on the bars, and Solem and Stedman will both compete on the vault.

Blugold Gymnasts Set to Compete at 2013 NCGA Championship in Whitewater

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team will compete in the 2013 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Championship, Friday and Saturday at UW-Whitewater.

The Blugolds are making their third straight appearance as a team at nationals. Last year they finished fifth as a team while taking sixth the season before. Eau Claire's best finish at the NCGA Championship came in 2005 when the Blugolds took fourth.

During the first day of the championship, teams will compete to determine the team national title. Saturday, individuals will compete to determine individual national titles in each event.

Last season, Michaela McCamey (Jr.-Dayton, Ohio) won the balance beam national title, becoming just the fourth Blugold in history to win a national title. She tied for second at the 2013 WIAC Championship in the event on March 9.

Five Blugolds on this year's team previously earned All-American honors. They are Olivia Aschenbrenner (Jr.-Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton), RachelAnn Anderson (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.), Rachel Behmer (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran), McCamey and Danielle Schulzetenberg (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.). Just 11 Blugolds in have earned All-American honors in the history of the program.

Friday's events get underway at 5 p.m. while individuals will compete Saturday at 4 p.m.
