Gymnastics Bests Gustavus For Third Straight Win

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team cruised to its third straight win with a dominant performance over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). The Blugolds won all four events plus the all-around and won the over match by a score 183.000-174.575.

On the vault, Cece Solem (Sr.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) scored a 9.450, to take first place. Blugold gymnasts filled the top five scores in the event.

In the floor exercise, Blugold Kellie Dougherty (Fr.-White Bear Lake) posted the top score of 9.425, a career-high. Solem placed second in this event with a score of 9.275.

The Blugolds also posted the top five scores on the uneven parallel bars, where Dougherty had the high score again, with a career-best score of 9.350.

Finally, on the balance beam the Blugolds were led by Olivia Aschenbrenner (Jr.-Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton) earned a 9.350 to get first place.

In the all-around competition, Danielle Schulzetenberg (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) took first with a score of 36.150. This was the first time all season a Blugold competed in all four events.

For the season, the Blugolds are now 9-2 overall.

The event was a home event for the Blugolds, their final home meet of the season, played at McPhee Physical Education Center. It was also parent/senior night.

The next event for the Blugolds will be at Winona State University next Thursday.  It will begin at 6:30 p.m.
