KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee to compete in the Ozone Collegiate Invitational with Centenary College (La.), UW-Oshkosh, and UW-Stout and came in first place today.
The Blugolds finished with a score of 184.600, the sixth highest team score in school history. Centenary finished second with a score of 184.275 points, a mere .325 points behind the Blugolds. UW-Oshkosh finished third and UW-Stout fourth.
Eau Claire posted the highest team score on both the beam (46.950 points) and the floor exercise (47.050 points).
On the beam, Blugold Olivia Aschenbrenner (Jr.-Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton) finished first with a score of 9.650, a season-high.
Cece Solem (Sr.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) scored the highest finish for the Blugolds in the floor exercise, with a mark of 9.525, a career-high. It was enough for second place overall on the floor.
Kellie Dougherty (Fr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) had the highest score for the Blugolds on the uneven bars, with a score of 9.075, which was the fifth highest overall. It was also her career-high.
Finally, on the vault, Danielle Schulzetenberg (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) scored a team high 9.400 to finish in eighth place.
This was the Blugolds' second straight first place finish, after finishing first in the UW-Eau Claire Invitational last Friday.
The Blugolds will look to continue their strong start to the season when they host UW-Stout on Tuesday, January 29. The meet will be held at McPhee Physical Education Center beginning at 6 p.m.
