Women's Golfers Wagner and Mattes Earn NGCA Honors

CORAL SPRING, Fla. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire women's golfers Catherine Wagner (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) and Sara Mattes (Sr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) were recognized Wednesday by the National Golf Coaches Association at the Division III Awards Banquet.

Wagner was recognized as a NGCA first team All-American while Mattes was an honorable mention All-American. Both were also named to the All-Region team.

This season Wagner took home medalist honors at the NCAA Division III Championship and led Eau Claire with an average score of 78.6. She finished in the top five at six tournaments this year, winning twice. In 2010, Wagner also earned All-American first team honors along with being named Division III Freshman of the Year.

Mattes, who was also honorably mentioned last year, tied for 24th at nationals this year. She averaged 80 strokes, second best on the team, golfing 21 total rounds. Mattes fined fifth or better at four tournaments, winning one.
