Women's Golf Finishes Second at Division III Classic

LAKE CITY, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team recorded a solid finish today, taking second place out of 21 teams at the Division III Midwest Classic at The Jewel Golf Club.

The Blugolds finished the two-day event with 639 strokes, 11 better than third place UW-Stout and only four behind the winner, Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.).

Two Blugolds finished the event tied for second place. Sara Mattes (Sr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) and Emily Swift (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) both shot totals of 155.

Leading the 115-golfer field was Gustavus' Taylor Drenttel, who won medalist honors with 153 strokes.

Also for Eau Claire, Catherine Wagner (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) finished tied for seventh with 160 strokes while Maggie Lattery (Sr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) tied for 30th with 170 and Lauren Gault (Sr.-Shorewood, Wis.) tied for 37th with 173.

Kate Engler (Fr.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner), who golfed as an individual, finished with 163 strokes to tie for 14th overall.

Next up for the Blugolds is the Division II Mustang Invitational in Marshall Minn. Teams will competed next Saturday and Sunday.
