Women's Golf Wins Wartburg Spring Invitational

WAVERLY, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team won the two-day Wartburg College Spring Invitational at the Centennial Oaks Golf Club.

The Blugolds finished with 638 strokes, nine better than second place finisher Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). Wartburg finished third with 655.

Gustavus' Taylor Drenttel won medalist honors in the 37-golfer field with 155 strokes.

Sara Mattes (Sr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) and Catherine Wagner (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) led the Blugolds as they tied for fourth place with 159 strokes.

Three other Blugolds finished 11th or better.

Kate Engler (Fr.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner) was seventh with 160 strokes, Emily Swift (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) took 10th with 164 and Maggie Lattery (Sr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) shot 165 to tie for 11th.

Golfing as an individual was Emily Stone (Fr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.), who took 29th place with 185 strokes.

Next weekend, the Blugolds will host their annual Spring Invitational in the final tournament of the regular season. The two-day event will start Saturday and conclude Sunday.
