Women's Golf Finishes Third at Home Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – After sitting in second place following round one of the 2011 Doug Georgianni Invite, the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team dropped one spot to finish in third place at Wild Ridge Golf Course today.

Eau Claire finished with 338 strokes today, 18 more than the previous day, on a windy course to finish with 658 for the tournament. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) had 335 today to win the invite with 653 overall. St. Olaf College (Minn.) had the day's lowest score, 326, and finished with 655 to take second place.

UW-Stevens Point's Mary Welch won medalist honors with 156 strokes.

A total of three Blugold golfers finished in 13th place or better with Maggie Lattery (Sr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) leading the way with 162 strokes, tied for sixth place.

Sara Mattes (Sr.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) tied for eighth with 163 and Lauren Gault (Sr.-Shorewood, Wis.) tied for 13th with 165.

Next weekend the Blugolds will be back on the course at the O'Brien National Invitational, an event featuring some of the top teams in the nation. Events will get underway Sunday and will conclude Monday at Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind.
