EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire women's track & field head coach Chip Schneider recently announced the winners of the 2014 team awards.
Carly Fehler (Jr.-Oak Creek, Wis.) was named the team's MVP. Fehler won the 100-meter dash national title at the NCAA Outdoor Championship in May after setting a school record in the event in preliminaries. She was the first Blugold to win a women's outdoor track & field national title since 2009 and was the first in program history to win the 100-meter dash. On the conference level, she was part of the outdoor 4x100-meter relay team that won the WIAC title. During the indoor season, Fehler claimed All-American status by taking fourth in the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Championship.
Newcomer of the Year honors went to Sarah Glidden (Fr.-Greenville, Wis./Hortonville). She was part of the Blugolds' 4x400-meter relay team that took third place while setting a school record at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship.
Kelsey Weigel (Sr.-Marshfield, Wis.) earned the Captain Award. Weigel competed the NCAA Indoor Championship and took 16th place in the pentathlon. At the WIAC Indoor Championship she took third place in the pentathlon and set a school record. She also holds the school record in the outdoor heptathlon.
