Women's Track & Field Fifth After Day One of Championships

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's track & field team placed fifth out of nine teams after the first day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by UW-Platteville.

The Blugolds accumulated 38 points in seven scored events. UW-Oshkosh took control of the standings with a total of 55 points and UW-Whitewater placed second with 44 points.

Ashlyn Mauer (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) earned the WIAC title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event with a time of 10:49.95. Teammate Kelly Palmer (Sr.-Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) also placed fourth in the event.

Blugolds placed two-three in the 10,000-meter run. Michelle Brunshidle (So.-Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) led the way with a time of 39:09.72 and Molly Woodford (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./South) followed closely with a time of 39:17.85.

The Eau Claire "A" team finished sixth in the 4x800-meter relay. Nikki Rendler (Fr.-Lodi, Wis.)Jami Riley (Fr.-Fairmont, Minn.)Erica Tiffany (So.-North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) and Maria Peloquin (Sr.-Prescott, Wis.) combined to complete the event in 9:40.55.

In field events, Heidi Anderson (So.-Baraboo, Wis.) led the way with her fourth place finish in the javelin throw. She had a fourth-best effort of 32.85 meters (107-09).

Tomorrow, the Blugolds will participate in the final day of the championships. Competition will resume tomorrow at 9 a.m.
