Three School Records Fall at Last Chance Meets

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's track & field team set three school records and came away with four national automatic qualifying results on the final weekend of last chance meets.

In the field, Brittany Frederick (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) had an excellent weekend. In the hammer throw in La Crosse on Thursday, she broke her own school record by more than seven feet as she won the event with a toss of 54 meters (177-02), a national automatic qualifying result. Frederick also hit auto qualifying status in the discus throw in both La Crosse on Thursday and Oshkosh on Friday. Her furthest toss in the event came in La Crosse as she won with a distance of 47.01 meters (154-03).

The 4x400-meter relay team of Talisa Emberts (Jr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton)Erin Schoenfelder (So.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community)Maria Peloquin (Sr.-Prescott, Wis.) and Jordanne Greenup (Jr.-Fridley, Minn.) also set a school record and automatically qualified for nationals after competing in La Crosse. The group took fifth overall with a time of 3:50.06, beating the old school record set in 2005 by more than a half-second.

In the 800-meter run in La Crosse, Peloquin also broke her old school record, one she set two seasons ago, with a time of 2:12.84. Her previous record was 2:12.98. The mark she reached provisionally qualified her for nationals.

Blugolds also reached seven other provisional qualifying marks in La Crosse while coming away with one in Oshkosh.

Next up is the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship. Nationals will be contested May 26-28 in Delaware, Ohio.
