STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's indoor track & field team tied for second place at the Pointer Invitational, hosted by UW-Stevens Point today.
Winona State University (Minn.) won the invite with a score of 141 while the Blugolds and Northern Michigan University tied for second with 100.
The Blugolds came away with five event victories and had a number of other strong performances.
In the field, Julia Baranek (Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) won the high jump with a school-record height of 5-7.75. The previous school record was 5-7.25, set by Arlene Meinholz in 1996.
Brittany Frederick (Sr,-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) won the weight throw with a distance of 54-10.
Steph Sjostrom (Jr.-Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.99, almost two seconds in front of the rest of the field.
In the one-mile run, Lucy Ramquist (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.) won with a time of 5:14.80, more than two seconds ahead of the rest of the competitors.
The Eau Claire relay team of Jordanne Greenup (Sr.-Fridley, Minn.), Brooke Patterson (Fr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton), Steph Rouse (Fr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) and Talisa Emberts (Sr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) took the top spot in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:01.98, six seconds faster than the rest of the field.
Next Saturday, the Blugolds will be at the Brooks Classic, hosted by UW-River Falls.
