EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team opened their spring schedule on Saturday as they hosted the Macalester College Scots. After sweeping the doubles' play, the Blugolds rolled through the singles for a 9-0 shutout win.
Elaine Franta (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN) and Lindsey Henderson (Sr. – Prior Lake, MN) continued their strong season at No. one doubles with an 8-2 victory over A. Reynolds and M. Ulrich (MC). Clare Palen (So. – Rochester, MN) and Samantha Fuchs (Fr. – DeForest, WI) followed suit at No. 2 doubles, defeating A. Sorajja/A. Munster (MC), 8-2.
In singles play, it was a full UWEC side sweep with wins across the board for the home squad. Sydney Presler (Jr. – Eau Claire, MN/Altoona) shutout H. Lundblad (MC) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 six to add to the team total. Morgan Nelson (So. – Beaver Dam, WI) and Samantha Fuchs also came away with quick victories at No. 5 and 6 singles.
The Blugolds will be back in action on Sunday, March 13th when they travel to Gustavus Adolphus College for a nonconference matchup against the Gusties. First serve is scheduled for 9AM in St. Peter, MN.
