EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team began Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) on Friday as they hosted their first home match of the year against UW-Whitewater. Despite taking a 2-1 lead after doubles play, the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds fell to the UW-Whitewater Warhawks, 3-6.

Lindsey Henderson (Sr. – Prior Lake, MN) and Elaine Franta (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN) earned their first dual win of the season with a 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. The home court advantage didn't stop there as Clare Palen (So. – Rochester, MN/Lourdes) and Samantha Fuchs (Fr. – DeForest, WI) also battled to a 8-7 win at No. 2 doubles.

Singles play didn't go in the Blugolds' favor as Henderson fell in the No. 3 slot, 6-3, 6-2. Franta faced the same fate at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Morgan Nelson (So. – Beaver Dam, WI) played hard at the No. 6 position, but was unable to overcome her opposition in her 6-1, 6-0 loss.

The Blugolds will take the week to prepare for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Tournament in Whitewater, WI on Friday, September 24th. The three day long tournament will be hosted by UW-Whitewater. WIAC play resumes on Wednesday, September 29th at home against UW-Stout.
