Women's Swimming Performs well at Falcon Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming team competed well this weekend at the two-day UW-River Falls Falcon Invite, contested at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

While no team scores were kept the Blugolds picked up six wins.

Nicole Dorvinen (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) had the most wins, coming away with three. She came up with a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.58 and also captured a victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.80. Her mark in the butterfly was less than a tenth of a second away from a school record, which she holds. Dorvinen also won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:36.47.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Karen Boosalis (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded the win with a time of 17:59.64. Her time was 27 seconds faster than the next finisher.

Also with an individual win was Kirsten Lickel (Jr.-Madison, Wis./East) in the 200-yard breaststroke. She finished with a time of 2:28.91, nearly two seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Eau Claire also came away with a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The group edged Carleton College (Minn.) by less than a tenth of a second for the win, finishing with a time of 1:39.79.

The Blugolds will compete in their final competition before the break next Saturday at UW-La Crosse. Action will get underway at noon in the dual meet.
