EAU CLAIRE, WI (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team was back at home on Sunday as they continued their nonconference schedule. With the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties in town, UW-Eau Claire knew their defense had to be on point to compete with the undefeated Gusties. After a scoreless first half, Amanda Iverson (So. – La Crescent, MN/La-Crescent Hokah) found the game's only tally in the 71st minute to give the Blugolds the 1-0 victory.
The first half showcased the strength of Eau Claire's defense as the Gusties outshot the home squad 9-1. Despite spending most of the half in their own end, UWEC didn't allow opportunities for Gustavus to score as Kennedy Boll (So. – Franklin, WI) stopped the two shots on goal that were taken. A penalty kick for Gustavus in the 10th minute was unsuccessful as the ball banged off the post and was then sent wide by the Gusties to keep things level at 0-0.
UW-Eau Claire flipped the game over in the second half as they kept Gustavus to zero shots in the final 45 minutes of play. UWEC kept the physicality at a high as they were booked for ten fouls during the contest but never carded.
In the 71st minute, Eau Claire received a corner from the left side of the goal. Megan Hansen (Sr. – Andover, MN/Anoka) took her run up and crossed a perfect ball right into the center of the box. Amanda Iverson tracked the kick all the way from the corner, put her head to it, and beat the Gustie goalkeeper on the short side corner for the Blugold goal. The lone tally records as Iverson's first goal of the season and third of her career.
Kennedy Boll finished the afternoon with two saves on the two shots on goal for her third win and second shutout of the season. Boll is now 3-2 on the season.
The Blugolds (3-2, WIAC 0-0) will head back on the road next weekend when they travel to Indianola, IA to face off against Simpson College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1PM.
