Women's Soccer Falls in Season Opener

WAVERLY, IA (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team opened their 2022 season on the road at Wartburg College on Friday. After falling behind early, the Blugolds were unable to mount a comeback and suffered a 2-0 loss.

Box Score

UW-Eau Claire defended early and often to open the year against the Knights as Wartburg pressed with pressure from the kickoff. Two shots by the Knights would find the back of the net in the opening 15 minutes of play. Megan Hansen (Sr. – Andover, MN/Anoka) and the Blugold offense pushed for an answer right after the second tally as Hansen rattled her first shot of the evening off the post at the 17th minute mark. UWEC kept faith but was unable to find that elusive first goal before halftime.

The second half saw much of the same pressure from Wartburg, but the Blugold defense held strong to keep the deficit at 2-0. Megan Hansen found Eau Claire's only shot on goal of the evening in the 85th minute before time expired.

Kennedy Boll (So. – Franklin, WI) stopped 9 of the 11 shots on goal she faced in her first loss of the season. The nine saves made if a single game career high for Boll despite the loss.

The Blugolds (0-1, WIAC 0-0) will be back on the road on Sunday, September 4th as they travel to Cedar Rapids, IA to take on Coe College at 12:00PM.
