Blugolds finish 5th at WIAC championship

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team hosted the 2019 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) on Friday, with the Blugolds finishing in 5th place and eight Blugolds earning spots on the podium.

David Dudych (So. - West Dundee, IL/Harry D. Jacobs) led the Blugolds with a second place finish at 149 pounds. Dudych won by a 10-9 decision in the first round and by fall (4:10) in the second. In the semifinal round, the sophomore defeated UW-La Crosse's Sam Wenzel with a 17-10 decision but fell in the championship to La Crosse's Logan Schlough by decision, 5-2.

Thomas Severson (Fr. – Marathon, WI/D.C. Everest) followed with a 4th place finish at 133 after posting a 2-2 record on the day. Severson earned a pin in the quarterfinal before falling in the semifinal. In the consolation semi, Severson won by medical forfeit but fell in the third place match in a 5-0 decision.

Also earning a fourth place finish was heavyweight Tyler Burt (So. Beloit, WI/Turner) who was 2-2 on the day, including a pin in the third consolation round (1:56).  

At 157, Ryan Hannah (Fr. – Genoa, WI/Viroqua) was fifth, winning the fifth place match by a 6-4 decision over UW-Oshkosh's Muzi Siseltha to finish the day with a 2-2 record. Toby Mosley (Sr. – Sparta, WI) also had a fifth place finish, defeating Graysen Sorensen of UW-Stevens Point with an 11-4 decision. The senior tallied a 3-2 record on the day.

Jordan Blanchard (Fr. – Coleman, WI) also finished 3-2 to take fifth place at 184, recording a win in the fifth place match with an 11-3 major decision over Titan Colten Cashmore.

Jack Marley (Fr. – Trempealeau, WI/Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau) placed sixth at 125 with a 1-3 record as did James Huntley (So. – Woodbury, MN/Stillwater) at 197.
