WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team returned to Whitewater on Saturday to compete in the UW-Whitewater Border Brawl Duals, but came up short in two contests.
In their first dual, the Blugolds faced North Central College (Ill.), and fell short, losing 42-6. Nathaniel Behnke (Fr.-Bruce, Wis.) was the only Blugold to win his match. Behnke won in the 141-pound match by pinfall at 2:25.
The other dual for the Blugolds was against Manchester University (Ind.). The Blugolds fought hard, but unfortunately came up short losing 28-24.
Five Blugolds managed victories against their Manchester opponents. Behnke again pinned his opponent, this time in just 1:32. Alex Kleinschmidt (Fr.-Mukwonago, Wis.) at 165 pounds also pinned his opponent in less than two minutes.
Also winning for the Blugolds were Steven Fisher (Jr.-Greenfield, Wis.), who won by a 10-9 decision at 149 pounds, Jacob Hoffstatter (Jr.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd), who won by a 7-3 decision at 184 pounds, and Luke Ortscheid (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./West), who pinned Manchester's Ray Wajda in 6:15 at 197 pounds.
The Blugolds' next match is the Wheaton Invitational, scheduled for next Friday and Saturday. Competition will begin Friday at 11 a.m. and at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
