MEQUON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team had several successful matches, but fell to three different schools this afternoon at the Concordia University (Wis.) Duals.
The Blugolds fell to the University of Chicago (Ill.) 28-7 as well as UW-Platteville 28-14. Eau Claire's nearly pulled off a win against host Concordia, but just lost 23-22.
Mat Rieckhoff (So.- Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) and Joe Pitsch (Sr.- Oshkosh, Wis./North) won all three of their respective matches. Rieckhoff, competing in the 184 weight class, pinned his Concordia opponent just 59 seconds into the battle. He also picked up a 9-3 decision against Chicago and an 11-0 major decision on Platteville.
In the heavyweight competition, Pitsch earned three major decisions. While he defeated his Chicago and Concordia opponents 12-1 and 12-3, his best match was a 16-2 win over his Platteville challenger.
Levi Polus (Sr.- Winona, Minn.) had a strong day as well, picking up two decisions in the 165 weight division. Tyler Kennedy (Jr.- Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) picked up a pin for the Blugolds on the day, pinning his opponent at the 2:32 mark of the Concordia match.
Next Saturday, the Blugolds will compete at the Augsburg Open. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
