Engler Leads Women's Golf to Second Place at WIAC Championship

NEKOOSA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Kate Engler (Sr.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner) claimed medalist honors at the 2014 WIAC Championship to help lead the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team to a second place finish out of seven teams after three rounds of competition at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course.

Engler claimed medalist honors for the second straight year with a 54-hole total of 234 strokes.  She is the third individual in WIAC history to win the title back-to-back seasons, joining former Blugolds Maggie Loney (2004-05) and Katie Maurer (2008-09).  UW-Eau Claire has had an individual secure medalist honors at the league meet 12 times in the 19-year history of the event.

As a team, Eau Claire came in second place with 1,000 strokes while UW-Stout won the WIAC title with 966. UW-Oshkosh was third with 1,051 strokes. Last season the Blugolds won the WIAC title while Stout won the previous year. Eau Claire has won nine championships in history.

Other individual finishes for Eau Claire were as follows:

Emily Stone (Sr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) – Tied for 8th with 252 strokes
Mandi Salo (Sr.-Hermantown, Minn.) – 17th with 262 strokes
Katy Bolduc (So.-Lake City, Minn./Lincoln) – 18th with 263 strokes
Katie Moore (So.-Woodbury, Minn.) – 21st with 266 strokes
Lauren Gaffney (Jr.-Portage, Wis.) – Tied for 33rd with 289 strokes (golfed as individual)
Molly Lattery (Fr.-Poplar, Wis./Northwestern) – Tied for 38th with 295 strokes (golfed as individual)
Abby Schulz (Jr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) – 44th with 302 strokes (golfed as individual)
Samantha Dvorsak (Sr.-Corcoran, Minn./Rockford) – 46th with 308 strokes (golfed as individual)

At the conclusion of the championship, Salo was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Blugolds will now be off until the spring.

Women's Golf Remains in Second at WIAC Championship

NEKOOSA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – After two rounds of the 2014 WIAC Championship at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course, the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team remained in second place out of seven teams.

Day Two Results

The Blugolds have been consistent, totaling 339 strokes for the second day in a row to bring their two-day total to 678. UW-Stout shot an impressive 311 today and now leads with 645 strokes. UW-Whitewater is in third with 699.

Blugold Kate Engler (Sr.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner) remained the top player in the field of 52 golfers as she finished with 79 strokes for a two-day total of 157, one in front of Stout's Mariah Chelsey. Engler is trying to claim her second straight WIAC individual title.

Emily Stone (Sr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) is the only other Blugold in the top 10 as she is tied for sixth place with 167 strokes.

The teams will compete in the final round of the championship Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.

Women's Golf in Second after Day One of WIAC Championship

NEKOOSA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – After the first round of the 2014 WIAC Women's Golf Championship at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course, the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team is in second place out of seven teams while two Blugolds lead the field of 52 golfers.

Day One Results

The Blugolds finished the first round with 339 strokes while UW-Stout leads with 334. UW-Whitewater is in third with 345 strokes.

Kate Engler (Sr.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner), who claimed medalist honors at last year's conference championship, currently leads the field with 78 strokes while Emily Stone (Sr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) is tied for second place with 81 strokes.

Also for Eau Claire, Katy Bolduc (So.-Lake City, Minn./Lincoln) is in 13th place with 88 strokes, Mandi Salo (Sr.-Hermantown, Minn.) is tied for 22nd place with 92 strokes and Katie Moore (So.-Woodbury, Minn.) is tied for 31st place with 98 strokes.

Golfing individually for the Blugolds were Molly Lattery (Fr.-Poplar, Wis./Northwestern), who is tied for 27th with 96 strokes, Lauren Gaffney (Jr.-Portage, Wis.), who is tied for 40th with 103 strokes, Abby Schulz (Jr.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern), who is tied for 48th place with 109 strokes, and Samantha Dvorsak (Sr.-Corcoran, Minn./Rockford), in 50th place with 113.

The second round will get underway at 10 a.m. tomorrow while the final round will be contested Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
