Blugold Women Fall to Eagles

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Despite a great start, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell to UW-La Crosse Saturday, 65-49 in Mitchell Hall.

The Blugolds took charge from the opening tip, jumping to a 17-5 lead midway through the first half. The Eagles, however, came roaring back and by half time, the Blugolds trailed 21-23.

The two teams stayed close in the opening minutes of the second half, before La Crosse began pulling away.

Despite the Blugolds' best efforts, they were unable to catch the Eagles, ultimately falling 65-49.

It was a tough day from the field for Eau Claire, as they shot 30.2 percent (15 percent from three).

However, their defense was solid, as they held La Crosse to 34.4 percent from the field in addition to recording 10 blocks and 10 steals.

Teenie Lichtfuss (Jr. Oshkosh, Wis.) led the way offensively, scoring 17 on the day.

Defensively, Ellen Blacklock (So. Winona, Minn.) proved a physical force, recording eight blocks to go with her six rebounds. She also chipped in 13 points.

Courtney Lewis (Sr. Prairie du Chien, Wis.) added 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists—a game high.

Eau Claire moves to 14-9 (9-5 WIAC) on the season with the loss, though they remain in third place in the conference.

The Blugolds return home on Wednesday, Feb. 18 and will host UW-River Falls. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m.
