Blugold Women Down 17th-ranked Titans in OT

OSHKOSH, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team won their third straight, notching a 63-57 overtime win over no. 17-ranked UW-Oshkosh at the Kolf Sports Center Saturday night.

The Blugolds played underdog when they traveled to Oshkosh to face a talented Titans team. 

They refused to let expectations hinder them.

Despite the Titans' best efforts to pull away, the Blugolds kept clawing back, keeping the game within four points by half time.

Eau Claire claimed their first lead halfway through the second half, though Oshkosh would reclaim it reclaim it in short order.

A frantic battle began.

The Blugolds chipped away until their deficit was a single point. Oshkosh tacked on a few, Eau Claire chipped it back down and with only two minutes left in the game, the score was tied at 51.

And there it remained.

One second, ten seconds, 30 seconds then 40; a minute elapsed in tense suspense. Another minute disappeared, the clicked one to zero; overtime was next.

Five more minutes to prove themselves; and prove themselves they did.

Eau Claire took a lead half way through the brief extra time, and never relinquished it, claiming a 63-57 victory over Oshkosh.

Teenie Lichfuss (Jr. Oshkosh, Wis.) led all scorers with 20, as Madison Johnson (Jr.Osceola, Wis.) chipped in a near double-double with 17 points and eight rebounds.

In total, eight Blugolds scored in the hard-fought contest.

Eau Claire improves to 10-6 (5-2 WIAC) with the win and will continue conference play at home on Wednesday against Platteville at 7 p.m.
