Women's Basketball Players Honored with All-Conference Awards

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Four players on the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference awards, including one selection to the All-Conference First Team, the WIAC announced today.

For the second consecutive season, Hannah Mesick (Sr.-Chatfield, Minn.) earned a spot on the All-WIAC First Team roster. Mesick was the leading scorer for both the Blugolds and the conference, averaging 17.1 points each game. She also ranked fifth in the WIAC for rebounds, with an average of 8.4. Mesick scored the most points for the Blugolds in 15 of the 26 games, with a high of 31 points against UW-Whitewater. Mesick was also honored with the Judy Kruckman Co-Scholar Athlete award for her academic efforts.

Nicole Christianson (Jr.-Chetek, Wis.) made All-Conference honorable mention status for her efforts this season. Christianson started all 26 games and averaged 9.8 points each outing. Her average of 4.04 assists each game was second-best in the WIAC. Christianson also ranked eighth in the conference in steals, as she nabbed the ball away 48 times for an average of 1.85.

Ellen Plendl (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) also received conference honors via selection to the All-Defensive team. Plendl blocked 81 shots in 26 games for an average of 3.12 each game. This average was second best in the conference. Plendl also earned one of the top field goal percentages, averaging .563 and for a rank of third in the conference.

Callie Halama (Jr.-Independence, Wis.) earned a spot on the conference All-Sportsmanship team. Athletes receiving this honor are recognized for their superior sportsmanship throughout the season. Halama played in all 26 games this season.
