COLFAX, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Six days removed from winning the Roy Griak Invitational for the first time in school history, the UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team returned home to turn in yet another strong performance at the Blugold Invitational.
Eau Claire put six runners under 26 minutes en route to a fourth-place finish with 102 points. UW-La Crosse won the meet with 54 points, St. Olaf (Minn.) came in second with 80 and Central College (Iowa) finished third with 98 points.
As he has done all season long, Ryan Mugan (So.-Howards Grove, Wis.) led the charge for the Blugolds. He placed ninth with a time of 25:10 over the course of 8,000 meters, besting his personal record by five seconds, which he set earlier in the year at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational on Sept. 14.
A pair of Blugolds finished side by side with one another as Christian Leitner (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) and Matt Scott (Sr. -Kiel, Wis.) came in 18th and 19th-place, respectively, with identical times of 25:26.
Nick Petersson (So.-Brookfield, Wis./Central) crossed the line next for Eau Claire, coming in 32nd-place with a time of 25:50.
Matt Wenaas (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) rounded out the scoring by placing 34th in a time of 25:51.
The Blugolds will get a week off before trying to maintain the hot-streak they are on at the Brooks Invitational, hosted by UW-Oshkosh, on Oct. 19.
