Men's Cross Country Wins Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – For the first time ever, the UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team won the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Les Bolstad Golf Course today.

Results

The Blugolds, whose previous best finish was second place in 2010, won the event with 69 points. UW-Oshkosh was second with 76 and Bates College was third with 83.

Ryan Mugan (So.-Howards Grove, Wis.) led the Blugolds as he took sixth place on the 8,000-meter course out of 296 runners. He finished the event with a time of 26:09.3.

The other runners who scored for Eau Claire all finished in the top 18.

Christian Leitner (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) came in next for Eau Claire, taking 13th with a time of 26:18.9. Matt Scott (Sr.-Kiel, Wis.) was 15th with a time of 26:20.6.

Erik Rosvold (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and Matt Wenaas (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) finished one right after the other. Rosvold took 17th with a time of 26:22.8 and Wenaas was 18th with a time of 26:22.9

Next up, the Blugolds will host their annual Blugold Invitational at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax. The women's race is set for 4 p.m. while the men's race begins at 5 p.m.
