BIRMINGHAM (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's track and field team finished in fourth place while the women tied for fourth at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships

David Kornack (Sr. – Edgar, WI) was the top Blugold finisher on the day as he was the national runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 17.63m.
After a third place finish in the 5,000-meter on Friday, Darin Lau (Eau Claire, WI/Immanuel) took fifth in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:20.07 to earn another spot on the podium while Dylan Cooper (So. - Holmen, WI) took seventh place in the heptathlon to secure All-American honors with 4,984 points.
In the final men's event of the day, the 4x400 relay team of Jordan Lijewski (Fr. – Roseville, MN), KJ Munn (So. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep), Dietrich Schwoerer (So. – McFarland, WI) and Hunter Henk (So. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls) finished with a time of 3:15.42, putting them in fourth place.
The Blugolds got a strong performance from throwers JoHannah Theisen (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Regis) and Erica Oawster (Jr. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) who finished in third (14.47m) and fourth (14.30m) in the shot put, respectively, to earn All-American status.
In addition, Mel Becker (Sr. – Osseo, WI/homeschool) placed 10th in the mile with a time of 4:59.78.
The women's 4x400 relay team of Ashleigh Buergi (Sr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port), Lizzy Keena (Fr. – Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln), Glory Hecker (So. – Stone Lake, WI/Hayward Center) and Glidden ended the meet on a high note for the Blugolds, placing third with a time of 3:50.70.
The Blugolds will take a short break before starting the outdoor season at the Emory Classic in Atlanta, GA March 23-24.
