Stephenson Named NCHA Player of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's hockey goalie Brandon Stephenson (So.-Saline, Mich.) has been named this week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association player of the week, conference sports information director Brian Monahan announced today.

Stephenson made 70 saves last weekend in a split with UWStevens Point.

He turned away 34 of 36 shots last Friday while guiding the Blugolds to their fifth straight victory. He made 11 saves on 11 shots in the third period with his team clinging to a 3-2 lead most of the period. UW-Eau Claire won the game 4-2.

In the rematch on Saturday night, Stephenson made the Pointers work once again. He recorded 36 saves on 39 shots as the Blugolds fell 3-2.

On the season Stephenson is 8-2-0 with a .911 save percentage. He has made 30 or more saves three times and ranks second in the NCHA in total wins. The Blugolds have faced seven teams ranked at the time of competition this season and have posted a 6-1 record in those games.
