Blugolds Soar to Seventh Straight Match Victory

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The 16th-ranked UW-Eau Claire volleyball team scored a dominating 3-0 win today over Rockford College (Ill.) during the first day of the UW-Whitewater Invitational.

The Blugolds won by significant margins in each of the day's three sets. Eau Claire started the match out with a 25-16 win in set one and followed it up with a crushing 25-12 victory in the second. The Blugolds then sealed the deal with a 25-17 set three. The team improves to a 14-3 overall record.

Kelly Schuh (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) and Laura Slinger (Jr.-Faribault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) led the team with 13 and 10 kills while Emily Neave (So.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and Amanda Lessner (Sr.-Watertown, Wis.) recorded 22 and 16 respective assists. The team's 38 digs were well distributed, with Jenny Burzynski (Jr.-Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd), Blair Murphy (Sr.-Hermantown, Minn.) and Jackie Tucker (Sr.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) each making a team-high six digs. The Blugold team also maintained an impressive .468 hitting percentage throughout the match, a season-best.

Tomorrow, the Blugolds will compete in the second day of the Whitewater Invite with matches against 11th-ranked Whitewater and 2nd-ranked Juniata College (Pa.). The first match against the Warhawks is set to begin at 10 a.m.
