Volleyball Closes Trick-or-Treat Classic Undefeated

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The No. 16-ranked UW-Eau Claire volleyball team ended the annual UW-River Falls Trick-or-Treat Classic in style with 3-0 wins over UW-Stout and Waldorf College (Iowa) to earn a perfect 4-0 weekend record.

Against rival Stout, the Blugolds' first 27-17 set win proved to be the closest set of the match. Eau Claire marched past the Blue Devils in the ensuing sets 25-16, 25-11.

Blair Murphy totaled 11 digs en route to the win. Anne Satterlee (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) made 12 kills and Rachel Ver Voort (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Middleton) added another 10 for the team. Amanda Lessner (Sr.-Watertown, Wis.) made the most assists for Eau Claire with a total of 37.

In the final match of the Classic, the Blugolds jumped out to a two-set lead after claiming the first sets 25-15, 25-15. The Warriors made the third set more of a challenge, but Eau Claire sped ahead to the 25-20 final victory.

Once again, Murphy made eight digs to lead the Blugolds while Emily Neave (So.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) tallied 30 assists during the match. Kelly Schuh (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./Hortonville) recorded a team-high nine kills.

Two Blugolds – Satterlee and Ver Voort were selected to the All-Tournament team for their efforts over the two days of competition.  Overall, Eau Claire's 4-0 tournament record tied the team with host River Falls for the best event record. The four wins also boost the Blugolds' season performance to 23-8.

As co-champions of the WIAC, the No.1-seeded Blugolds have a first-round bye in the WIAC Tournament. Eau Claire also earned the right to host the semifinal and final events, so the Blugolds will compete in the semifinals this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
