Volleyball to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - For the third consecutive year, the UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team and other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) volleyball teams will participate in promotions to support breast cancer awareness. Over the past two seasons, the Blugolds have raised over $13,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.

With the help of event sponsors, Luther Midelfort and Charter Communications, the Blugolds will hold their event on October 15 during a match against Oshkosh in the McPhee Physical Education Center. The match will also be team and youth night for the Blugolds, which means two youths (12th grade and under) will be admitted free with each paid adult, and middle and high school teams (including coaches and bus drivers) that pre-register to watch the match will be admitted free. Please email head coach Kim Wudi to register your team (wudikm@uwec.edu). Eau Claire will also be part of another breast cancer awareness event when it takes on UW-River Falls in River Falls on October 20.

Spectators are encouraged to wear pink in support of all those affected by breast cancer. Pink volleyball t-shirts and other Blugold merchandise will be for sale. Luther Midelfort and Charter Communications will sponsor several contests and giveaways throughout the match, including our popular serving contest at the conclusion of the match. UW-Eau Claire Athletics will also recognize local high school teams that partnered with Blugold Volleyball by hosting their own breast cancer awareness events during the months of September and October.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
