Blugold Volleyball Rolls Over Stout

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The 15th-ranked UW-Eau Claire volleyball team continued its domination over UW-Stout with a 3-0 win at the McPhee Physical Education Center.

The Blugolds, who haven't lost to Stout since Sept. 2005, swept the three sets but came from behind to win. In the first set, the Blue Devils jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Eau Claire tied the match and hit nine unanswered points to propel them to the 25-13 victory. The second set started much like the first, with Stout earning the 4-1 advantage. But unlike the initial set, the match remained close until Eau Claire edged out the 25-20 win.

In the final set, the Blugolds never relinquished the lead. The team easily cruised to the 25-11 victory and overall match win.
Blair Murphy (Sr.-Hermantown, Minn.) led the Blugolds with 16 digs while Amanda Lessner (Sr.-Watertown, Wis.) totaled 28 assists. In addition, Elizabeth Anderson (Jr.-Rib Lake, Wis.) scored a match-high 10 kills. Eau Claire also outhit Stout, hitting a .356 compared to the Blue Devils' .054.

With the victory, Eau Claire now boasts a 7-2 season record while Stout drops to 1-8. Eau Claire will try to better this number Friday, when it hosts UW-Whitewater. Play is set to begin at 7 p.m. in McPhee.
