Volleyball Ends Season in Second Round of NCAA Tournament

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The 17th-ranked UW-Eau Claire volleyball team ended its season in the second round of 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament with a 3-0 loss to 12th-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at Schoenecker Arena tonight.

This is the third straight season the Blugolds lost in the second round of the tournament. They were making their 13th overall appearance in NCAA post-season play and sixth straight.

While the Blugolds started off the match shaky, scoring just 14 points in set one, they came back strong in set two. Unfortunately they still fell short but it was much closer, 25-23. The third set was also competitive but Eau Claire came up short 25-19.

Eau Claire put up a good fight and finished with 35 kills and a .206 hitting percentage. St. Thomas recorded 51 kills and had a .364 hitting percentage. The teams were nearly even in blocks with three for the Blugolds and two for St. Thomas.

Anne Satterlee (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) led the way for Eau Claire with nine kills while Rachel Ver Voort (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Middleton), who was named to the six-member All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the regional Sunday evening, added eight and two others had seven.

Jackie Tucker (Sr.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) and Ver Voort each had seven digs while Amanda Lessner (Sr.-Watertown, Wis.) finished with a team-high 29 of the team's 35 assists.

Eau Claire ends the season with a record of 25-10, with three of this season's losses coming to the Tommies. St. Thomas improves to 30-6 and will face St. Olaf tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the third round of the tournament.
