EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team won their sixth-consecutive dual match of the season defeating UW-Oshkosh 9-0 here today in the Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center.
With the win Eau Claire improves to 6-1 in dual matches and 4-1 in WIAC action. Oshkosh falls to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in WIAC dual play. Since losing to UW-Whitewater in their first dual of the season, the Blugolds are 36-0 in four WIAC duals and 51-3 over their six-match winning streak.
The Blugolds won five of six singles matches in straight sets. Maddie Johnson (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/South) defeated Erica Van Riper at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles Colleen McCullough (Jr.-Maple Grove, MN/Osseo) beat Bailey Sagen 6-4, 6-2. Nicole Pothen (Sr.-Centerville, MN/Centennial) won her match at No. 3 singles over Brianna Theobald 6-2, 6-1. No. 4 singles saw Madison Rossebo (Sr.-Minnetonka, MN) down Llora Waldman 6-2, 6-0. Paige Kuepers (Jr.-Green Bay, WI/Southwest) defeated Paige Ganser 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Sarah Henderson (Fr.-Prior Lake, MN) concluded singles play at No. 6 play with a three-set victory over Hannah Bostwick 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles play the team of Johnson/Rossebo defeated Van Riper/Sagen at No. 1 doubles 8-6. At No. 2 doubles Pothen/Kuepers earned a victory over Theobald/Waldman 8-2 and McCullough/Henderson won over Bostwick/Maggie Bolton at No. 3 doubles 8-0.
The Blugolds return to the court on Friday, October 10 when they travel to Division II Winona State (MN). Action is set to begin at 3 p.m.
