Four Blugolds Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Four UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Recognized this week were football player Korey Jacobson (So.-Baldwin, Wis./St. Croix Central), women's tennis player Paige Kuepers (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Southwest), and women's volleyball players Katrina Raskie (So.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) and Jamie Dimka (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East).

Jacobson set a school record for most receptions in a game as he caught 17 passes for 107 yards in his debut with the Blugolds against No. 11-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Sept 6.  The previous school record was 13, set by Chris Herzog on Sept. 23, 1989 against UW-River Falls.

Competing at No. 4 singles, Kuepers was undefeated during the week in two matches in Green Bay. On Sept. 5, she won 6-0, 6-2 against Elmhurst College (Ill.), a team the Blugolds beat 8-1. Against St. Norbert College on Sept. 6, she won 7-5, 6-3 as the Blugolds emerged with a 7-2 victory.

Playing in 13 sets in four matches during the week at the Augsburg College (Minn.) Invitational, Raskie and the Blugolds finished with a 3-1 record, which included a 3-1 win over No. 9-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.).  Raskie led the Blugolds in both kills and service aces, while she was second on the team in digs.  With Raskie leading the team in kills in three out of four matches, she finished with a total of 43 kills (3.31 per set), 15 of which came against the Tommies.  She also had seven service aces and 49 digs along with one block assist.  For the second weekend in a row, Raskie was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the invitational.

Playing in 13 sets in four matches during the week at the Augsburg College (Minn.) Invitational, Dimka and the Blugolds finished with a 3-1 record, which included a 3-1 win over No. 9-ranked University of St. Thomas (Minn.).  For the weekend, Dimka led the team in digs with 62 (4.77 per set) after coming away with team-highs in three out of the four matches.  Against the Tommies, she recorded 20 digs, her highest mark in the four matches.  She also had five service aces, 10 set assists and two kills.
