Women’s Tennis Flies Past Falcons

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team won all six singles matches in straight sets in route to defeating UW-River Falls 9-0 here today on the UW-River Falls campus.

In singles play the Blugolds lost just eight games in 12 sets, including 6-0, 6-0 victories in flights 4, 5 and 6.  Doubles play yielded similar results as the Blugolds lost only five games winning all three flights.

Maddie Johnson (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/South) got things rolling at No. 1 singles defeating Kelsey Hochberger 6-2, 6-1.  Colleen McCullough (Jr.-Maple Grove, MN/Osseo) won by an identical 6-2, 6-1 score at No. 2 singles over Hannah Klimek.  Nicole Pothen (Sr.-Centerville, MN/Centennial) defeated Molly Deering at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1.  Madison Rossebo (Sr.-Minnetonka, MN), Sarah Henderson (Fr.-Prior Lake, MN) and Olivia Gallagher (So.-Lodi, WI) each won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 4, 5 and 6 singles respectively.

The Blugolds continued their dominant play in doubles play.  The team of Johnson/Rossebo defeated Hochberger/Klimek at No. 1 doubles 8-4.  Pothen and Paige Kuepers (Jr.-Green Bay, WI/Southwest) defeated Deering/Ebensperger 8-1.  At No. 3 doubles the duo of McCullough and Henderson defeated Zuern/Rosenow 8-0.

This weekend the Blugolds will compete at the ITA Tournament hosted by Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minnesota.  The tournament will start on Friday, September 19 and conclude Sunday, September 21.
