MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team traveled to Cornell College for the Matman Invitation Saturday, scoring 39 points to take ninth place out of the 14 participating teams.
Nathan Behnke (Jr. Bruce, Wis.) was the only Blugold to place,finishing second at 141 pounds.
Behnke won his first match by fall at 2:21 and followed it up with a win by major decision 17-8. He notched a technical fall (15-0) in his second and third matches respectively. In the championship match, Behnke kept it close but fell by decision, 3-2.
Robert Rocole (So. Lakewood, Wis.) made it to the third round after advancing via fall at 2:58 in the second round.
Mat Rieckhoff (Sr. Wausau, Wis.) won his first match by major decision 14-1, before losing in the second round.
Eau Claire travels to Stevens Point on Thursday, facing off at 7 p.m.
