STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team took home two third place finishes and a second place finish at the Pointer Open hosted by UW-Stevens Point on Saturday.
Nathaniel Behnke (Jr.-Bruce, WI) led the Blugolds with his second place finish at 141 pounds. After a bye in the first round, Behnke defeated Robert Uttecht (UW-Parkside), Holden Thompson (Wheaton) and Trevor Spears (UW-Stevens Point) before falling to Luke Rowh (UW-Madison) in the championship match.
After losing in the first round, Josh Cormican (So.-Boyceville, WI) notched five straight wins to claim third place at 197 pounds while Justin Karkula (So.-Oshkosh, WI/West) took third at 285 pounds, also tallying a 5-1 record on the day.
The Blugolds will be back in action Thursday, November 13 as they host St. Olaf. The first match is slated for 7 p.m.
